Crew Leader
Landscape Crew Leaders supervise and work as part of a crew. Work is done outside, in all weather, so come prepared.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Working in all areas of the Landscaping Department, including landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Pond installation and assist with hardscape.
- Supervise personnel to oversee work in progress.
- Provide training assistance on basic/fundamental landscaping practices.
- Know common plants by name and where to find information on those that are unfamiliar.
- Be familiar with the names and requirements of all plants within client properties.
- Plant, trim, spray, mow, weed, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or sand and other related functions.
- Know and utilize the proper planting techniques.
- Know and utilize proper pruning techniques including timing based on species.
Qualifications:
Good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the work as there are the following on a regular basis: move heavy objects, lift, stand, kneel, bend, stoop and crouch.
- Verbal ability to communicate effectively with subordinates.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to analyze, organize and delegate.
- Ability to assign, supervise, and review work of a landscape crew.
- Ability to understand machinery and techniques to insure safe, sanitary and effective operation of the grounds equipment and facilities and basic maintenance of same.
- Ability to work to standards and regulations set by applicable local, state, and federal codes and agencies.
- Knowledge of landscape principles, practices, landscape design and of landscape related construction: shelters, sidewalks, planters, irrigation, etc.
- Working knowledge of trees, shrubs, and groundcovers, their establishment, maintenance and proper use.
- Working knowledge of soils and amendments.
- Will hold or be able to obtain a Maine Landscape & Nursery Association Professional Landscaper Certificate within one year of hire.
- Willingness to learn from others and to take direction.
- Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
Additional Requirements:
- Prior industry experience
- Clean driving record
Landscaper
Landscapers work as part of a crew. Work is done outside, in all weather, so come prepared.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Working in all areas of the Landscaping Department, including landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Pond installation and assist with hardscape.
- Know common plants by name and where to find information on those that are unfamiliar.
- Plant, trim, spray, mow, weed, fertilize, sweep, rake, cultivate, dig, water, shovel or plow snow, remove ice, spread salt and/or sand and other related functions.
Qualifications:
Good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the work as there are the following on a regular basis: move heavy objects, lift, stand, kneel, bend, stoop and crouch.
- Knowledge of the safe use of hand tools and power equipment necessary in landscaping.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Will hold or be able to obtain a Maine Landscape & Nursery Association Professional Landscaper Certificate within one year of hire.
- Willingness to learn from others and to take direction.
- Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Additional Requirements:
- Clean driving record
Experienced Hardscape Installer
Only Hardscapers with at least 5 years of experience need apply. Hardscapers work as part of a landscape crew. Work is done outside, in all weather, so come prepared.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Lay common building materials (natural or artificial) to construct or repair walls, walkways, patios, etc.
- Construct outdoor structures including fireplaces and chimneys with industry common materials.
- Accurately measuring for material needs.
- Proper mixing techniques and application of mortar with appropriate tools.
- Pond installation.
- Training and guiding temporary or seasonal employees in basic work methods and safety issues.
- Assist landscape department in activities typical of the industry.
Qualifications:
Good health with adequate strength and endurance to perform the work as there are the following on a regular basis: move heavy objects, lift, stand, kneel, bend, stoop and crouch.
- Working knowledge of all types of stone, rigging techniques, color matching, mortar matching, cutting and shaping techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers.
- Ability to analyze, organize and delegate.
- Ability to assign, supervise and review work of a crew.
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Five years experience in the masonry field
